12th Annual Bocce Ball Tournament
After a dismal performance in the 2000 Bocce Tournament, Matt Wingerd once again regained title as Bocce Champion in the 2001 tournament. For the second year in a row, Mony Kim advanced to the final. He fell behind early but made a surge at the end only to fall by a score of 21 – 18. Perhaps the stunner of the day came in the third round where Andrea Gruca defeated the defending and six time champion, Doug Ross. Riding a wave of confidence, she continued winning only to fall to Mony in the semi-finals 21 – 14 securing her the third place finish. Andrea’s husband Dave fell to Matt in the other semi-final 21 – 9, thus rounding out the top 4 finishes.
The 2001 event was held downtown Chicago in scenic Lincoln Park. A record 34 participants enjoyed a beautiful summer day to go along with a well organized tournament. Special thanks to Beth Wingerd for being hostess for the year’s event. Her planning and coordinating made for a day for which everyone enjoyed.
Congratulations to all who participated and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s tournament!!!
